FOR BEGINNERS

INTRODUCTION TO MOSAICS

During the first three lessons you will learn the basics of the mosaic art/craft form.

You will complete a small garden paver or wall hanging as well as take part in some hands on exercises. learn the basics including:

Design

Cutting

Use of Tools

A brief history of mosaic art

Materials

Glues and Grouts

There will be plenty of inspiration and everything you need to succeed in your first foray into mosaics. Be warned, it is highly addictive.

Costs: From only $25 per 2.5 hour class plus small materials charge.

 

WE HAVE A CLASS EVERY WEDNESDAY 11am to 2pm , AND EVERY SECOND SATURDAY AT UPPER BEACONSFIELD

AND EVERY THURSDAY MORNING AT CHELTENHAM 

FOR THOSE WITH EXPERIENCE

Within the group setting you will receive individual tuition ensuring that you will expand your knowledge and skills. We can lead you on your journey helping you to improve your technique whilst making beautiful mosaic works for your home, garden or for exhibitions. We can teach you to make mosaics in ceramic, glass, Smalti, marble, found objects,... We can teach you traditional Roman methods and contemporary design, we can lead you to create unique art works, we can teach you how to make 3D mosaics, we can show you how to make your own tesserae in a kiln, and much much more...

COSTS: INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED from $25 per 2.5 hour class plus materials

 

CLASSES RUN EVERY WEDNESDAY AT BEACONSFIELD, EVERY THURSDAY AT CHELTENHAM AND EVERY SECOND SATURDAY AT BEACONSFIELD

 Two Day Sculpture Workshop

DATES:   8-9th October 2022    PHILLIP ISLAND CAMPUS

Make a unique outdoor sculpture that can be used as a base for your mosaic work.

Over the course of this two day workshop, you will learn how to build an armature from wire. You will learn how to apply a weatherproof cement mixture to your armature. This is a perfect base for you to apply a mosaic finish (in your own time or in Artopia’s regular mosaic classes). You will also learn how to use Artopia's special Sculpt & Stick product to model and add features to your sculpture as well as lots of other sculpture and mosaic tips and tricks. You will be served a lovely lunch and can attend an optional dinner. This is a great weekend!

CLAY DAYS

DATES: Saturday 5th November, Sunday 20th November, Sunday 11th December

Spend the day at our beautiful Phillip Island Campus, making clay pieces for your mosaics, or functional objects such as dishes. You will need to attend at least 2 session to return and glaze your fired pieces. Expert help and tuition. Cost is $12 per hour plus materials and firing fee. Bottomless coffee & tea and biscuits. MOSAIC INTENSIVE SKILLS WORKSHOP

DATES: No dates specified at the moment.  Spend the day at our beautiful Phillip Island Campus, learning a range of mosaic techniques. Helen will guide you through several different processes depending on your needs. This is a great workshop for those of you who have done some mosaics but feel that you're lacking in skills in certain areas or would like to learn something in particular. Topics that will be covered are: glass cutting, glass on glass mosaics, cutting and working with china, working with found materials, combining materials, classical mosaic techniques, and more ( you can email Helen and pre-arrange for a particular skill to be taught.)  To secure your place please in full by clicking here.
